On Wednesday 5th March, Professor John D Brewer was the guest speaker at the All Children Together/QUB Dunleath Lecture, giving the lecture, entitled “The Limits of Politics: Reflections on a Damaged Peace”.

In a challenging and thought-provoking lecture, Professor Brewer introduced a new conceptualisation of peace processes, and emphasised the importance of civil society over politics and social transformation over political transformation.

Professor Brewer said that ‘the peace process is too important to be left to politicians’ and that civic society needs to have the debate that politicians are unable to have, focusing on the social peace process now (as opposed to the political) and starting the moral debate.

John Brewer is Professor of Post Conflict Studies in the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen’s University.”
