The NICIE Teachers’ Committee forms an important part of NICIE’s governance structures. Two members of the committee sit on the NICIE Board of Directors.
Aside from this formal connection, we want to keep connected with the realities of teaching, with a view to supporting teachers to respond to the challenges they face in the Integrated school. We aim to give teachers the chance to come together in an informal and supportive manner; to share problems and solutions; to collaborate on projects; and to develop the Integrated school ethos. The Teachers’ Committee’s activities are informed by a planning group, which meets a few times each year to plan workshops.
Examples of workshops/forums we have held include: ‘Religion in the Integrated School’; ‘Tackling Sensitive and Controversial issues’; ‘Humanism Information Session’. We hosted a well-being session for teachers during the pandemic and we have found that moving to online platforms has enabled many more teachers to engage in these workshops.
Every Integrated school is asked to nominate a key contact for the Teachers’ Committee, and all teachers are welcome to attend any of the workshops/activities.
