Teacher Learning In New Orleans

Mrs Catherine McIver, Modern Languages teacher and Integrated Education and CRED Co-ordinator at  Parkhall Integrated College* was delighted to be successful in her application for a teacher leadership course organised by British Council and the U.S.A.  This involved   spending a week, from 1- 6th March in New Orleans being trained by the prestigious organisation, ‘Leading Educators’ along with eight other teachers chosen from Northern Ireland.   The training allowed them to learn new leadership and management skills to enhance teaching and managing in their own schools and in the wider community. The teachers also visited several primary and post primary schools in the city, observing pupils at work, different styles of management and gaining examples of god practice in other institutions.  ‘This was a brilliant opportunity and I learnt so much in one week’.
