The Minister enjoyed a brief tour of the school and met with representatives of the school’s pupil and parent councils.

Speaking about his visit, the Minister said: “Phoenix Integrated Primary School has flourished since its inception in 2004 when it started with only 12 pupils. Now the school has over 160 children enrolled. Such growth is testament to the management of the school and reflects parental demand in the local area.

“To help the school cater for its increased enrolment, my Department is investing around £400,000 in adding additional teaching space, dining facilities and extending the multi-purpose hall.

“I very much enjoyed engaging with the pupil council today. The children were very articulate and put forward passionate and informed views. They represent our leaders of tomorrow and I am heartened by such ability in our younger generation.

“I also welcome the opportunity to discuss issues such as shared education and the future of the school with the parent council and staff members. Such debate is of great value as we work to map out the future of local education provision.”
