O’Dowd announces decision on increased capacity at Enniskillen Integrated Primary School

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

25th February 2014

Education Minister, John O’Dowd, has approved a development proposal to increase capacity at Enniskillen Integrated Primary School. The Minister has approved an increase in the school’s admissions number to 56 and overall enrolment to 392, over a seven year period.
Commenting on his decision, the Minister said:

My Department takes seriously its duty to encourage and facilitate the development of integrated education.

“The evidence presented in this case demonstrates that there is demand for an increase in places in the integrated sector. Enniskillen Integrated Primary School is the only integrated primary school in the area and there is physical capacity on the existing site to extend provision.

“My approval of this proposal provides for an increase in the admission numbers at Enniskillen Integrated Primary School to 56 from September 2014 onwards and an increase in the enrolment numbers to 392, over a seven year period.

“This represents a very substantial increase and I will need to be sure that the numbers materialise to warrant the significant investment required for additional accommodation. On this basis I have asked my officials to review enrolments in the school in two years’ time to ensure that the approved numbers are being met.”
