A Derry-Londonderry school has sent three students as the UK-Ireland representatives of a European project headed by Radio Berlin to change minds through sound. Oakgrove Integrated College is proud to be the only UK and Irish school selected for the event which sees the students complete a week-long project with young people from Nicosia, Bulgaria, Berlin, Germany, Cyprus and Northern Ireland
The project “Crossing Barriers, understanding the other” uses radio presentations to challenge attitude, explore differences, and share common human experiences across the breadth of European experience.
Oakgrove’s Andrew McCallion, Mathew Winstanley and Jack Roddy visited BBC Radio Foyle ahead of their departure to learn some of the techniques which will help them gettheir message across.

BBC’s Jenny Witt briefed the boys about what they might expect from the German media experience, and Mark Patterson interviewed them to find out the ideas they would bring to the discussions when the project began.
Accompanied by Oakgrove’s Head of English, Damien McDonnell, the students plan to share the message more widely by finding a project which will make greater connections in the local area on their return.
