NICIE welcomes integrated status for Killyleagh PS
The Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) is delighted by Education Minister, John O’Dowd’s decision to approve the transformation to integrated status of Killyleagh PS, in the village of Killyleagh, Co.Down.
Principal Jason Milligan expressed happiness and appreciation both about the outcome and speed of the decision on their Development Proposal which was published on 9th September 2015. The Minister’s remarks,
“I am satisfied that sufficient evidence has been provided to support the transformation. This includes the results of a vote where parents supported the transformation to integrated status.”
acknowledges the importance of preparatory work, including building community confidence and commitment to achieving integrated provision. Killyleagh Primary School, parents and teachers have been inspirational in their efforts in doing just this and NICIE looks forward to continuing to support the dedicated staff, parents and wider school community on the next stage of their exciting journey.
Commenting on the decision, Roisin Marshall, Chief Executive of NICIE stated, ““This Ministerial approval to transform to integrated status formally recognises the hard work that the school, its Board of governors, parents and teachers have undertaken. This is an important step in meeting the need for additional primary integrated provision in the Co. Down area. Parents have demonstrated once again the desire for all children in their community to be educated together on a daily basis. NICIE shares their joy and is committed to supporting Killyleagh Primary School teachers, parents and wider school community as they move forward to delivering a truly shared learning environment for their children.”
