Integration Training at Omagh IPS and Loughries PS

Integration Training at Omagh IPS

27.08.15

NICIE were delighted with the opportunity to deliver training this week on integration to all staff at Omagh IPS. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Anthony Bradley, the Principal. The session was very interactive and provided opportunities for the staff to do some personal reflection as well as reflection on school practice. There were a range of learning activities one of which encouraged the staff to discuss the importance of their role in tackling discrimination and providing a safe learning environment for every child. Other activities promoted discussion on the core values of Omagh IPS as an integrated school and how best to ensure that practice and procedures reflected these values. The training was evaluated by the participants as very useful as it gave all staff the opportunity to come together, learn more about the integrated ethos, and reflect on the most effective ways to develop the ethos within the school. Some of the evaluations from the training highlighted the importance of being open-minded and taking time to reflect as a whole school staff on what it means to be integrated. NICIE really valued the willingness of the staff to get involved, offer feedback, and work together very effectively as a staff unit. NICIE would like to thank Dr. Anne Murray Cavanagh for helping with the training.

“Integration in Practice” training was delivered by NICIE on Monday 24th August for teachers and classroom assistants at Loughries PS.  The training is part of a rolling programme which will support the school on developing the integrated ethos, promoting the school and preparing for the transformation throughout the coming year in preparation for the acquisition of Transformed Integrated status from September 2016.

A range of activities supported staff in the exploration of what becoming an integrated school will mean for Loughries PS, as well as examining prejudice, tackling discrimination and planning for the transformation and integration in practice work to be carried out in the year ahead.  NICIE was delighted to support staff through a very interesting day which we will continue to build on during the coming year.
