It is with great sadness that the integrated movement in Northern Ireland and Britain say goodbye to one of the great pioneer for Integrated Education (IE), Chris Moffat. Chris was the driving force behind the transformation of Brownlow Integrated College, Craigavon. That first transformation was a historic battle and an important part of the history of IE. Chris’s contribution was invaluable.
Since then Chris maintained an active support for Integrated Education. In particular her research into the human rights perspective of IE was important. Her papers on this contributed greatly to the development of IE. Her interest and support ranged from this study of IE and Human Rights legislation to attending the NICIE annual seminars and events.
Chris, her strong voice, her determination and her commitment to what is such an important cause, will be much missed.
In a recent article entitled ‘Separate but equal, and shared?’, Chris noted the following,
‘Integrated schools work best when people do something together, rather than, or at least as well as, talking about it.’
Chris’ life came to the end of her life on 9 February 2016 in Canterbury and her funeral will take place at 12 Midday, Friday 19 February 2016 in St. Peter’s Methodist Church, St Peter’s Grove, Canterbury CT1 2BE.
