Integrated Education Month, March 2023
Pupils from across Integrated schools in Northern Ireland participated in The Big Picture to celebrate IEM 2023, engaging with film and filmmaking with support from Into Film. We had great fun supporting teachers with this process and visiting the pupils in person during our Integrated Education themed Story Builder workshops.
As a means of demonstrating the outcomes of their participation in this work on The Big Picture, students had the opportunity to partake in a special Big Picture Competition, crafting films and animations to represent Integrated Education from their perspectives.
Some truly fantastic work was produced from across a range of schools, demonstrating creative and nuanced understanding of what it means to be integrated.
However, three winners have been selected by Into Film in collaboration with NICIE and staff from the schools, and they are as follow:
1st Place – ‘Purple’, from Glencraig Integrated Primary School
1st place received a£100 Amazon voucher.
2nd Place – ‘Voting – Good Friday Agreement’, from Newbridge Integrated College
2nd Place received a £50 Amazon voucher.
3rd Place – ‘Celebrating Integrated Education’, from Malone Integrated College
3rd Place received a £50 Amazon voucher.
Runners up – Phoenix Integrated College, All Children’s Integrated Primary School, Hazelwood Integrated Primary School, Parkhill Integrated College and Hazelwood Integrated College all received green screens.
Congratulations to the winning participants, and to everyone who took part in this special project. The Big Picture theme represents the importance of our individual roles within the patchwork. Each of us, student, staff, parent or otherwise, plays an important part of the Big Picture of Integrated Education, and it was beautiful to see how this was celebrated by schools throughout the duration of this project.
