Students and staff at Sperrin Integrated College are celebrating another excellent set of A Level results this year.
At A Level, overall results include 100% of pupils achieving 2 or more grades A* to E, 82 % of all entries attained A*-C grades, with 57% achieving 3 or more A*-C. One notable achievement within this year’s results is that almost 40% of pupils achieved the top A*/A in one or more subject areas.
In eight subject areas including, Art and Design, Moving Images Arts Performing Arts, ICT, Polish, Government and Politics, Sports Studies and Mathematics were all awarded the top grades A*-C with 100% success rate.
In Mathematics the pass rate was 100% grades A/B and Polish 100% A*/A.
The outstanding achievement of A* distinction of all seven of our students in the Sports Studies cohort is testament to the collaborative work with Magherafelt High School in the Magherafelt Learning Partnership.
Amongst the top achieving pupils are Natalie Clarke, achieving an A in Business Studies and ICT and B in Health and Social Care. Natalie has secured a place at the University of Ulster to read Computer Science. Other top performers include, Joseph Goddard, achieving an A in History, A in Geography and C in Biology. Joseph has also secured a place at Loughborough to complete a degree in Quantity Surveying.
Samuel Cunningham has achieved two A grades in Art and Design and Moving Image Art and a B grade in English literature. Sam, like most of his Art and Design fellow pupils are progressing to the University of Ulster to study an arts related course, in Sam’s case, Graphic Design.
As in other years most of our pupils have secured a place at their chosen third level institution and will study a wide range of disciplines such as Marine Biology, Nursing, Arts, History, Psychology and many other third level qualifications.
Mrs. Heron, Principal of Sperrin College, commented on the outstanding success of Sperrin pupils stating: ‘Once again I would like to congratulate the Year 14 pupils on achieving an excellent set of results at A level. This success is testament to the hard work they put into their studies and the maturity and committed approach they took to learning.’
She continued, ‘On behalf of the Senior Leadership team and all the staff we wish all of them continued success in the next phase of their lives and we hope that they truly live out the school ethos of ‘Pursing Excellence Together.’
Mrs. Heron commented on the exceptional support given to these young people by the school and their parents, stating, ‘It is very important to acknowledge the huge amount of support and expertise given to all our pupils from our dedicated staff, both teaching and non-teaching who inspire our pupils to fulfil their potential. In addition, the Principal also thanked the Parents and families for their support given to the pupils throughout their seven years at Sperrin College.
