Carhill IPS pupils celebrated their 25th Anniversary of integrated education by taking to the streets of Garvagh on the 27th March. This walk was about celebrating peace and building relationships across the community.
The enthusiastic group made their way down Garvagh Main Street and were cheered on by supporters made up of parents, grandparents, local business representatives and governors. Along the way the children gave out token gifts, which celebrated diversity and mutual understanding.
One of the highlights of the event was meeting and conversing with key community figures including the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Council. At the Remembrance Garden in Garvagh town centre the children entertained the guests by performing a celebratory song entitled “Learning Everywhere” written and choreographed by Miss Mc Afee, Acting Principal.
Coming to the end of their walk the children were greeted by Mr Hans Clyde an elder from Garvagh Main Street Presbyterian Church. One parent commented “Isn’t it fantastic that in the current climate that these children can bring so many elements of the community together.”
The staff, children and guests were rewarded for their efforts by receiving refreshments in Garvagh Main Street Presbyterian Church Hall. Carhill IPS would like to thank all of those who attended and supported the event and especially the founding parents and governors who first began the journey into integration 25 years ago.
