Schools take part in Montfort Parliament anniversary flag display

Flags designed by children from Northern Ireland are part of a colourful display marking the 750th anniversary of the 1265 Montfort Parliament.

They are among 80 chosen to represent the historic counties and constituencies of the UK.

Pupils aged from seven to 11, from primary schools throughout Northern Ireland, created designs inspired by their community and county as part of Parliament’s 2015 Flag Project.

Six designs, representing each of Northern Ireland’s counties, were chosen to be made into flags and participate in the display.

The project, in collaboration with artist Jonathan Parsons, aims to help children discover the importance of elected representation through parliamentary history.

As well as commemorating 1265, the flags also mark the week the House of Commons meets for the first time after the 2015 General Election.
