Unprecedented A Level results at Hazelwood College!

Hazelwood Integrated College is celebrating its best ever A level results with 100% of students passing every A level qualification taken. An amazing 78% achieving 3 A*-C, whilst 91% of students achieved 3 A*-E at A level. 100% of pupils achieved at least 2 A levels grade A* – E.  In the past 6 years this statistic has risen by an astonishing 60%.  Very well done to all our students and staff and thank you to our parents and governors for all your support.

It is impossible to select ‘top performing’ subject this year as the results have been so good across the whole curriculum. Our creative subjects however have had a particularly good year, with outstanding results in English Literature, Art, Photography, Performing Arts and Moving Image Arts.

Our continuing partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College is proving to be extremely successful with students achieving fantastic results in subjects such as Hospitality & Catering. This supports the college efforts to create opportunities related curriculum since surprisingly, despite the huge rise in grades in all subjects fewer students are choosing University courses than ever before, with many opting for courses such as HND’s and Apprenticeships at Further Education Colleges.

Hazelwood’s reputation for excellence in educating international students has continued, with students achieving A*-C results at Advanced Level. Many of these students came to us with little English and yet have achieved top grades at Advanced Level. Karolina Kolec has achieved top grades in English Literature, Media Studies and Photography and has secured a place at Ulster University studying English.

It is difficult to pinpoint top performing students but amongst the highest achieving group is Ben Malcolmson who is off to Ulster University to study Photography having achieved excellent results in Art, Moving Image Arts and Media Studies and Caitlin Molloy transferred to Hazelwood College for post 16 studies and also achieved fantastic results in Business Studies, Moving Image Arts and Performing Arts and will study Therapeutic Communication and Counselling Studies at Ulster University.

Principal, Kathleen O’Hare is delighted with the results, “these are our best results ever …by far, I am so proud of all our students. I would like to particularly commend the hard work of the staff at Hazelwood and I think our success this year proves that we offer a curriculum that meets the needs of our students and also the the world of work. A number of our students have overcome personal barriers to achieve fantastic results and I believe this is testament to the excellent pastoral care system in conjunction with the high academic standards we have in place at Hazelwood.”
