Integrated Education Month: March 2024 – BIAS BUSTERS

Pupils from across Integrated schools in Northern Ireland celebrated Integrated Education Month 2024 and the theme of Bias Busters. Many opted to engage with film and filmmaking with support from IntoFilm NI. It was wonderful to hear the positive feedback from schools involved, and to see the results of the work.

Schools had the opportunity to partake in a special Bias Busters competition, crafting films and animations to represent the theme from their unique perspectives. Some truly fantastic work was produced from across a range of schools, demonstrating creative and nuanced understanding of what it means to be a Bias Buster.

However, three winners have been selected by Into Film, and they are as follow:

1st Prize: Phoenix IPS for their film, We Can Be Anything We Want to Be (£100 Amazon Voucher)

2nd Prize: Hazelwood IPS for their film, Purple World (£50 Amazon Voucher)

3rd Prize: Priory IC for their Film Buff Challenge: Bias Busters work (£50 Amazon Voucher)

Joint Runners Up (who all won greenscreens):

New-Bridge IC for their IEM24 film

Ulidia IC for their IEM24 film

IC Glengormley for their Bias Busters film

Kircubbin IPS for their Film Buff Challenge: Bias Busters work

Congratulations to all competition winners and runners up, and to everyone who took part in this special project. The Bias Busters theme was a special way for Integrated school communities to engage with Anti-Bias in Education and what this truly means within a school for students, staff, parents and beyond.

A special thank you to Into Film for the creativity, involvement, and support.
