Following on from record-breaking success at A Level last week, Hazelwood College is celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results today with 90% of students obtaining 5 or more GCSE’s grades A*-C and 67% of them achieving at 7 or more GCSEs grades A*-C. The percentage of students achieving 5 or more GCSE’s including English & Maths has also risen to 52%.
Among top achieving subjects are English, Maths, Science, Personal & Social Development, ICT & Health & Social Care. Huge congratulations are due to all our year 12 students and to their parents for their on-going support.
Teachers are also to be commended for an amazing set of results across 30 subjects. This success continues our improvement journey to become one of the top non-selective schools in Northern Ireland.
Amongst the top achieving students were Tyrique Ramiah, Judy Ho, Corey O’Loan & David Tranter. There was double success in the Caldwell household with twins Phoebe & Robyn achieving an amazing 18 GCSEs grades A*-C between them with both twins achieving English & Maths.
These fantastic results mean that we will welcome back our largest ever Sixth Form and the students in this most successful year group will be privileged to have the opportunity to participate in the College’s new Internship programme, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland. The Internship programme is led by Deloitte and for this first pioneering year includes five major companies from various sectors including, Danske Bank, Clayton Hotels and O’Hare McGovern.
Principal Kathleen O’Hare said,’ Breaking new barriers is not something new to Hazelwood and we are delighted for our year 12 students and staff and their success. Our incoming year 13 will continue their ground breaking achievements by opting for a wide range of academic and vocational courses as well as being one step ahead of their peers in securing their future in the world of work’.
