There are a number of ways your child can find a place at an integrated school:

1. Apply to an integrated school in your area.
There is a good spread of Integrated provision throughout Northern Ireland and all schools organise transport to and from school. Click here to find a school near you

2. Set up an integrated school with a group of parents in your area.
Where there is no integrated provision, NICIE can assist you to make contact with other interested parents or individuals in your area in order to form a Parent Steering Group. A Parent Steering Group is a group of individuals who come together to push for Integrated Education in their community. Steering Groups throughout Northern Ireland have successfully established schools in their communities with NICIE support. If you are interested in starting a Parent Group please contact Lorna McAlpine, Senior Development Officer at NICIE ON 028 9023 6200 or lmcalpine@nicie.org.uk.

Establishing an integrated school has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring experiences I have ever had. It’s hard work, but definitely worth it.”

3. Transform your existing school to integrated status.
Schools can also opt to transform to Integrated Education status. The transformation process can either be started by the Board of Governors or by a written request from at least 20% of parents. If you are interested in your school transforming please contact Lorna McAlpine, Senior Development Officer at NICIE on 028 9023 6200 or lmcalpine@nicie.org.uk.

Integrated schools have been created in the main by groups of parents who have advocated that parents should always, in the first instance, make education choices for their children. These groups of parents, both past and present, have taken enormous risks regarding debts and responsibilities in order to fulfil their aspirations and establish integrated schools. Along the way they have been ably supported by a number of charitable trusts as well as NICIE which serves as an umbrella organisation for all integrated schools.
